Book from the Ground

There’s a rather creative book I stumbled upon recently apparently called Book from the Ground “written” by an author apparently called Xu Bing (徐冰).

This book is written conceptually using symbols common to most modern cultures.  Thus, a culturally-literate person from the U.S. could also read this book written by a Chinese artist.

The idea itself is intriguing:  circumventing traditional languages by appealing to other symbols we currently share in our culture vocabulary.  It could be a push towards a global language that has developed naturally as an outgrowth of modernity (especially from the internet’s ability to rapidly disseminate of pop culture symbolism).  I’m curious as to where this idea will lead in the near future.
